Interactive Transcripts Now Available for Films On Demand!

Films On Demand is pleased to announce an exciting new enhancement to our subscription--new interactive transcripts for thousands of videos. 

With interactive transcripts, users can:

• view the full text of the video and follow along as the video plays
• print the transcript
• click on any word in the transcript to jump to that exact point in the video and begin playing the selection
• search each transcript to locate every instance of a specific term in a video.

Interactive transcripts are easy to access. If a title has a transcript available, a "Transcript" tab will display on the View Video page. From this tab, users can search, print, or disable the autoscrolling feature. For further instructions, please refer to this PDF, also found in the Help Center. Plus, new transcripts are added each month!

New RefWorks 2.0 Interface is here!

RefWorks 2.0: Brand new display!

RefWorks now has a  brand new interface! For a while now, the RefWorks’ display has needed an overhaul. The new design is much easier to use and looks a lot more current. Log in to check it out!

Now that you’re logged into the new display, let’s take a look at what’s changed….

• Citation Display
  Folders are now hyper-linked
  New tool icons
  
  • “View” – displays details for the reference
  • “Cite” – allows you to insert temporary citation placeholders into a document (using copy & paste commands)
  • “Edit” – allows you to edit the existing reference information
  • “Star” – adds reference to you “My List” folder
  • “Comments” – displays any comments made by others who access your shared references
  • “Paper clip” – indicates if files are attached to the reference and the quantity of files attached

  • References
  • Folders
  • Share
  Global Edit feature allows you to globally
  
  • Add information
  • Move information
  • Delete information in a specific field
  • Replace information
  Remove from folder button
  “Change View” – allows you to view your citations in a specific citation style

• Dynamic changing buttons – buttons containing actions you can perform on your references that change depending on what tab you are currently viewing

What if you miss the old interface? You can still use it! Look for the “RefWorks Classic” link in the upper right corner. Once RefWorks officially releases RefWorks 2.0, RefWorks users will be able to continue using the classic interface for 6 months. After 6 months, they will permanently switch to the new interface.

SEARCH TIPS: If you know that a hearing has been held within the last day or two and your search fails to retrieve a temporary record with links to the transcripts, search by keyword on the Advanced Search form using a search that includes full text. Although the temporary record will be replaced with an authoritative bibliographic record once the hearing is published, remember that until that happens you may have to try more than one keyword to find what you are looking for since the temporary record title is merely descriptive and the indexing is not complete.

Densho: The Japanease American Legacy Project

In 1996, a Seattle community group formed Densho to begin videotaping the life histories of Japanese Americans who were incarcerated by the U.S. government during World War II. In 1998 Densho created a digital archive of 75 interviews and 1,000 historic photos and documents. This digital archive was made available at the Wing Luke Asian Museum in Seattle.

FIRST-EVER DIGITAL COLLECTION OF CIVIL RIGHTS DOCUMENTS

WASHINGTON-As the Nation pauses to remember the achievements of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., the U.S. Government Printing Office (GPO) teams up with the United States Commission on Civil Rights (USCCR) and the Thurgood Marshall Law Library, University of Maryland School of Law, to provide the American public a website of authentic Civil Rights historical publications.


The Thurgood Marshall Law Library, which is a GPO Federal Depository Library, has been scanning hundreds of historical Civil Rights publications to make this digital collection possible. These documents are provided by USCCR. With a couple strokes of the keyboard, Americans can access Civil Rights documents such as The Civil Rights Act. These documents are accessible at:
